Selecta is built so that as little as possible leaves your computer. Your music, the analysis of it and your Rekordbox library stay on your Mac. This page lists everything that does leave it, why, and who handles it. 1912TECH is responsible for this data (the “controller” under the GDPR).
What we keep, and why
- Your email address, to sign you in with a code and to link your subscription to you. Needed to provide Selecta (our contract with you).
- Your computers: a scrambled version (a hash) of each computer's hardware ID, never the ID itself, plus the computer's name, macOS and app version, and when it was last online. This keeps a license to two computers and the free week to one per computer. The hash and the email that used a computer's free week are kept so that computer can't get a second one (our legitimate interest in preventing abuse).
- Your subscription: its status and dates, and Stripe's customer number. We never see your card details.
- Assistant usage: for each Assistant request, the number of words (tokens) used and what it cost, to keep track of your allowance. We don't store your conversations.
- The free week's playlists: how many playlists Selecta added to Rekordbox during your free week, and the folder name, to count the free week's limit.
- Error reports: when Selecta runs into an error, it sends the error message, the app version and your type of computer, so we can fix it. These are anonymous: no email or account, and your name is taken out of any folder paths. Your internet address is only used, scrambled, to limit how many reports arrive (our legitimate interest in a working app).
What goes elsewhere
- The Assistant runs on Claude, by Anthropic. When you use it, your message and the details of the tracks it needs (artist, title, genre, BPM, key and similar, never the audio) go through our server to Anthropic, which writes the reply. Anthropic handles this under its commercial terms, which don't let it train its models on the data. Anthropic is in the United States.
- Discogs: to find the genre of a track, Selecta asks Discogs for the artist and title, straight from your computer. Discogs' own privacy policy applies to that.
- Payments are handled by Stripe, through Link, which sells the subscription to you and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy.
Who helps us
These companies process data for us, only to run Selecta:
- Supabase: sign-in, license and the database, in the EU (Stockholm).
- Anthropic: the Assistant (United States).
- Resend: sending sign-in codes and the download link by email.
- Vercel: hosting this website.
Where data goes to the United States, it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
This website
No analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. Signing in on the account page sets one cookie that keeps you signed in, and nothing else. When you ask for the download link by email, the address is used to send that one email and isn't stored. The app preview on the front page plays short previews streamed from Apple Music, so your browser connects to Apple when you play one.
How long we keep it
Your account data is kept while you have an account. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your email, computers, usage and subscription details, except the scrambled computer IDs that already had a free week, and what the law requires us to keep. Stripe keeps payment records as long as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct, delete or hand over your data, or object to how we use it. Mail hello@selecta.dj and we answer within a month. If you aren't happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
